Landslide Monitoring in Flums

Copernicus Technologies Deploys Landslide Monitoring System near Flums, Switzerland

Copernicus Technologies is supplying landslide monitoring instrumentation for a new installation near Flums. The deployment supports ongoing efforts to improve early detection of slope instability and to enhance data collection for geotechnical analysis.

The company has several years of experience in the development and manufacturing of sensor systems for monitoring landslides and debris flows. Previous installations in the United Kingdom, Nepal, and India have demonstrated the applicability of distributed IoT-based sensing systems for both hazard mitigation and geoscientific research.

The installation near Flums incorporates the latest generation of activity detectors and inclinometers. These sensors are designed to detect minimal ground movement with high resolution, enabling continuous monitoring of slope dynamics.

Data transmission is based on LoRaWAN communication, allowing low-power, long-range connectivity in challenging terrain. In addition to real-time transmission of activity data, the sensors store high-frequency accelerometer and gyroscope measurements locally. This enables detailed post-event analysis and supports scientific evaluation of slope processes.

Copernicus Technologies provides technical support to research institutions and public authorities in the integration and operation of the monitoring systems.

The sensor units are designed for flexible deployment. Integrated magnetic mounting enables straightforward attachment to metallic structures, while dedicated mounting accessories allow installation on rock surfaces or structural elements such as bridges.

Collected data can be accessed and visualized through IoT Wonderland, a browser-based platform for device management and data analysis.
